Body
In an age of social media, where every picture is painstakingly curated and filtered, it can be easy to lose control of our relationship with our bodies. We see the ways in which they fail us, the ways in which they don’t measure up to the aesthetic ideal. But it is time we turned that around and reclaimed our relationship with our bodies.
Our best way of doing that is through movement and physical exercise. It becomes a way of thanking our bodies for the essential work they do of moving us through the world, and a way of building our physical and mental strength for all that life can throw at us. While we can literally see the difference that exercise makes, in our bodies, we know the huge impact it has on our minds, too. Because yes, sport improves cardiovascular health and strengthens muscles, it helps us look good which makes us feel better, but it also releases those glorious endorphins, it alters our biochemistry to alleviate stress and anxiety, to literally make us feel happy. Movement is where the magic happens.
My passion for sport is one that began in childhood, with a particular obsession with track and field, and saw me navigate the choppy waters of puberty, young adulthood, anxiety, post-natal depression and beyond. Sport has been the one constant of my entire life, and my body and mind are equally thankful.
And, just as meditation can center your mind, consistent exercise grounds your body. I want to share that love with you.
